Bubble Hockey

A lesser known side to the sport

It's no simple story friends, of how the Rufa Bubba Dome Bubble Hockey Championship Trophy and Tournament came into existence. In fact, it almost didn't, and the amateur bubble hockey followers of Oklahoma City would've been left a cold, championless place. Yes folks, before it made its way to OKC, the Bubba Cup bubble hockey trophy resided in the cold, dark refrigerator of a quiet, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, liquor store, and the tourney was only a spark in the imagination of its founders, until a wedding changed everything&

It's a what?
Technically, the Rufa Bubba Dome Bubble Hockey Championship Trophy is an empty five liter mini-keg of Molson Canadian beer, which was purchased for the wedding of Justin and Natalie Rufa in 2003. Justin's father bought the keg for the wedding reception, however he fatefully entrusted the keg to his son the week before, and that keg never knew what hit it. Justin and his friends spent one last night drinking and living it up at O'Connors Irish Pub in Kanata, Ontario, playing bubble hockey and reveling in his last few days of bachelorhood, enjoying the cold Canadian refreshment that only Molson can bring. Having had such a fantastic time, playing the sport that he loved, Justin had a thought& a thought about a bubble hockey tournament. The thought turned to a dream; the dream, to a reality. The rest, as they say, is history&

It's official!
The prestigious bubble hockey tournament and trophy would soon make its way to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where they would become famously known as the Rufa Bubba Dome Bubble Hockey Championship and the Rufa Bubba Dome Bubble Hockey Championship Trophy. Needing an excuse to drink five liters of good old Canadian beer, Justin Rufa decided that to hold the first ever official R.B.D. Bubble Hockey Championship in December of 2003, where Patrick Comiskey would win the first ever 'Champion' title, and the first ever official Rufa Bubba Dome Bubble Hockey Championship Trophy&

Just begging to get beat
Patrick "C-Deez" Comiskey hasn't lost a Rufa Bubba Dome Oklahoma City Bubble Hockey Tournament since day one. That's right sports fans, he's claimed the entire tourney since the first puck drop, and is the only champ in the whole six seasons of its existence. He's left hundreds, maybe thousands, of big league players in his wake, each hopeful that they too, will soon experience the glory, prestige and fame of being Number 1&

Who's next?
The bubble hockey tourney and its fantastic trophy, in all of its glory, are still in existence today. The trophy, like an empty, beerless tin of fame and glory, still waits to be claimed, and Oklahoma City waits impatiently on edge, eager to see who the next victor will be. The trophy, the tourney, the fans, the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, the almost painful desire to take C-Deez down& these reasons, my friends, are what make the OKC Bubble Hockey Tournament one of the most anticipated and celebrated occasions in the history of the sport of bubble hockey.
